General Meeting Minutes
17 September 2008
Held at the Westerly Hotel

Ian Sibbald called the meeting to order and Margaret Crites led the gathering the singing of “O Canada”.

Ian Sibbald introduced himself and welcomed new members.

Minutes of the Previous Meeting (11 June 2008):- It was moved by Halle MacMullen and seconded by Cecile Turnbull that the minutes of the last meetin be approved as presented. Carried

Committee Reports

Treasurer:- Tom Dandeno presented the financial report for the 01 Jan to 31 Aug 08 period and moved that it be approved as presented. Carried

Media:- John Davis was not in attendance.

Welfare:- Halle MacMullen informed that she has sent out 8 cards over the summer

Programs:- Barb Schneider informed members of a mistake in the Newsletter regarding the Christmas Luncheon. The confirmed date is the 10th December with tickets on sale now and a cut-off or cancellation date of 30Nov 08.

Membership:- Steve Bunyan indicated that membership stands at 1,240. He reported that 961 members have physically received the Newsletter with 230 going via e-mail.

Website:- Steve admitted to not having spent much time on the website over the summer and to now have difficulties with the program, which he is now working to rectify. He mentioned that the website has now bee renewed for 3 years.

Benefits:- Bill Turnbull informed the membership that revisions to the policy on hearing loss by DVA are addressed in the Newsletter. He offered his services to anyone having problems accessing or obtaining the required paperwork.

Newsletter:- Kevin Weighill reported success at getting the Newsletter out in a timely manner.

Telephone:- Cecile Turnbull requested the aid of more volunteers for the phone comittee.

History:- Frank Elvins was not in attendance.

New Business:

Audit Committee:- consisting of Steve Bunyan and Frank Elvins was asked to audit Branch books. This was done and verified that the books in exemplary order. Kudos to Tom Dandeno.

A motion was put forward by Ian Sibbals, for approval of the audited 2007 financial statements; seconded by Barb Schneider. Carried These will be forewarded to National Office.

Vice President Election:- Ian asked Tom to run the election of the new Vice President. He introduced two nominees: Cecile Turnbull and Kevin Weighill with no nominees from the floor. After a vote, Cecile was installed as Vice President by our new RSO John Finn.

Presentation:- John Finn then gave a presentation to the membership outlining all the perks and protection NAFR has to offer.

Cecile informed the meeting that she has further information from Joy McKerr for anyone who is going through a re-location or downsizing and urged them to call her.

Draws:- The 50/50 winners were Bob Waugh and Trudy Black. The winner of two tickets fr dinner was won by Tom Fisher.
